Parents and Carers play a vital role to play in protecting children from abuse. Sexual exploitation involves manipulating or forcing a child to take part in sexual acts. The child can perceive this as a consensual relationship, or it could be perpetrated in return for attention, affection, money, drugs, alcohol or somewhere to stay. This victim often believes the abuser is their boyfriend or girlfriend, and they may face violence and threats in order to make them take part in inappropriate behaviour.
