Hello Visitor,The Global CurriculumEach new Global Curriculum theme opens with Engagement Week, where the sole aim is to create memorable learning experiences that leave children eager to find out more! This took place last week and there was a buzz around school as children saw their new learning environments for the first time and engaged in a range of linked activities. This week, I have been so impressed with how teachers have maintained this high level of engagement amongst their pupils - a walk around school this morning highlights what a rich and exciting curriculum the school has to offer. All of the photos below were taken in the space of 10 minutes this morning. Nothing is staged, this is just what happens day in day out - wherever I went in school, all children in all classes were engaged, happy and learning new things. Across the school site there were Australian outback survival experts making shelters, camp fires and bows and arrows, children learning about the Amazon Rainforest and meeting the creatures that live there, such as snakes, spiders, snails and cockroaches (courtesy of Zoolab). Our youngest pupils are busy growing plants and learning about what they need to survive and, over in Year 5/6, pupils were designing and making their own zen gardens as part of their Far East theme. Hockey Stars!Congratulations to our Year 3/4 hockey teams who played brilliantly in Wednesday's competition at Wollaston. Fantastic effort all round from our players and a second place overall which is a great result - their great work was celebrated in Achievers' Assembly this morning, along with the many sporting and academic achievements (both inside and outside school) of other pupils. Parents' EveningParents' evening appointment slips have been sent home in bookbags. We are looking forward to seeing you all next week to tell you all about your child's achievements this term. Mufti DayFriday 15th March is Mufti Day for all pupils. To support FOGS with their Easter Fair, the school is asking for voluntary donations of Easter eggs for their chocolate tombola. As next Friday is Red Nose Day, the school will also be collecting cash donations which will be sent on to Comic Relief. So, no school uniform next Friday, wear something red and send in a voluntary donation of cash for comic relief and an Easter egg (or several if you like!) for the chocolate tombola if you can! Many thanks in anticipation of your continued support. Pupil ProfilesThere are still a good number of Pupil Profiles that have not yet been returned to school. If you still have your child's Pupil Profile, please bring it along to your child's Parents' Evening appointment next week. Many thanks. After School ChildcareEarly next week, a letter will be circulated informing you of a new after school childcare offer and asking for your feedback on the likelihood of you using the provision. The letter will include indicative costs, timings and activities on offer. If you think this may be of interest to you, then keep out for the letter in bookbags at the start of next week. |
