  Hello Visitor,

County Cross Country Finals

Having raced extremely well in the District Cross Country Race, Zoe qualified for the County Finals, taking on 80 of the fastest cross country runners in her age group from Northamptonshire Schools. The County Finals were held in Corby and Zoe ran brilliantly to finish 14th. A tremendous performance, Zoe, we are all very proud of you!

Open Afternoon

At the end of this half term, our current curriculum themes draw to a close and, once again, we would like to invite parents and relatives into school so that the children can share their amazing work with you. Visitors will be able to explore all of the classrooms and speak to pupils about their studies. The exact format to the afternoon is yet to be finalised. However, it will definitely begin at 1.30pm on Wednesday 13th February!

Dragons' Den

dragons den snitchWillow Class pitched their ideas in the Dragons' Den on Thursday, hoping to secure an investment to help them start their Harry Potter themed business enterprises. Alongside Mrs Dudley-Smith and Mrs Breslin, I was lucky enough to sample home-brewed Butterbeer, delicious Gringott's Shortbread, triple chocolate Mandrake Muffins, Samosa Howlers, Golden Snitch Pops and also hear about one group's fantastic idea to personalise the famous Harry Potter wanted posters!

The children were extremely persuasive and have worked incredibly hard, researching ideas on the Internet, approaching local businesses for support, testing different recipes, using spreadsheets to present detailed costings, writing letters to the Dragons to outline their plans all whilst trying to find their unique selling points!

You will be able to buy their Harry Potter themed treats and gifts at the forthcoming Open Afternoon.

Suffragettes Presentation

To support our pupils' Victorian studies, Peter Barratt and Dorothy kindly agreed to visit Year 3/4 on Wednesday to teach the children about the suffragettes. Peter's Great Grandmother, Alice Hawkins, was a leading suffragette who was jailed five times in her struggle to achieve equality. In 2018, a 7ft bronze statue of Alice was unveiled in Leicester to celebrate her life.

The children have all remembered Alice's remarkable story and the school are very grateful to Peter and Dorothy for sharing it with us.

Parents' Evening

The Spring Term parents' evening dates have been set for Monday 11th March and Wednesday 13th March. Letters will be sent home shortly.

On Wednesday 13th March, there is a netball tournament for Year 5/6 children. The team has yet to be selected but if your child is keen to be selected for this, I would recommend opting for the Monday for your parents' evening appointment. If you request a Wednesday appointment and it then clashes with netball, school will make every effort to accommodate a new parents' evening appointment slot.

Mind The Daffodils!

daffodil festOver recent months, volunteers in Grendon have been planting daffodil bulbs throughout the green spaces in Grendon in preparation for their Daffodil Festival in the Spring.

I have been asked to remind parents and children to take extra care and mind where they tread as the daffodils are in danger of being trampled underfoot.
