Wraparound Childcare

Drop offThe school currently runs it's own in-house early morning supervision from 8.30am. This is a well attended provision.

Nevertheless, as per DfE guidance for schools on Wraparound Care, there is duty on schools to periodically 'consider and respond to requests relating to wraparound care'. The full guidance can be found here

As you know, the school recently gathered parents' views on whether there is any demand for replacing the current early morning supervision with a breakfast club that would be run by The Drop Off from 7.45am, with a healthy breakfast provided.

Many thanks to those of you who responded to the Breakfast Club Survey. A total of 24 families completed the survey. I have included below a bar chart of outcomes plus all comments received from parents via the online survey.

  • Great idea, really needed to help enable parents to work more flexible hours
  • This option would be a huge help to us in the mornings and will allow me to increase my working hours. I hope there is significant interest. Thank you for exploring the possibility.
  • I currently have to organise wrap round care for morning drop offs using outside sources, such as a childminder. I would very much benefit from early morning breakfast club provision in school from 7.45 and would utilizes this.
  • I currently organise wrap round care for morning drop offs using outside sources, such as a childminder. I would very much benefit from early morning breakfast club provision in school from 7.45.
  • Great that it’s from 7.45am! Can we still use it adhoc?
  • We occasionally use the current morning drop off (which is super helpful, especially as the boys know the people who manage it). For us, it would still be occasional use but 7.45 is far too early (for us) could alternative times be considered please? Thanks
  • I would definitely use it if available
  • We really love how we don’t have to book and pay as you go as some weeks we need that extra help with work commitments and other weeks we don’t :-) many thanks
  • Would definitely help with the new job I’m going into
  • Use same depending on price
  • I use the breakfast club only occasionally, so my response isn't really accurate.  Unfortunately the survey doesn't say how much the provision by the drop off would cost, and that would play a large part in parents decisions on whether or not to use it.
  • Not used every week, but very useful when it is used
  • The breakfast club is definitely needed for our circumstances however the 8.30 drop off works fine for us
  • Due to my working day it would still mean even with the early drop off i would need to use after school cub. If there was the option to do a half session at reduced cost at the after school club i would probably use daily
  • Having the earlier start of a morning breakfast club would be a great help!
  • It would still be good to have the option of the 8:30 drop off
  • We use the breakfast club 4 times a week and it works really well for us. We wouldn't have the need for an earlier start. If the drop off took over the breakfast club my main concern would be the cost of this. I wouldn't be able to justify paying their fees if we only require the facility from 8:30 (15 mins before school) especially as we already pay a lot for after school club when needed. My other concern would be the booking system The current set up is perfect because you don't need to pre-book in advance like I imagine you would need to do if the drop off take over. Although for some parents this would be a great and I understand the potential need for this, it would be a shame to change the provider and I imagine up the price significantly for those parents who only need the extra 15 minutes

breakfast club

As wraparound care provision forms a part of our wider discussions around school sustainabiity, the Governing Body was consulted on and has, this week, approved the proposal to replace the current early-morning childcare provision with The Drop Off's Breakfast Club.

The Drop Off have confirmed that the forecast uptake is sufficient for them to commit to providing Breakfast Club for the duration of the 2024-25 with a view to continuing the provision beyond this time.

I am aware from your survey responses that a number of families will inevitably be inconvenienced by this change to provision and I hope that those familes will be able to use this notice period to find alternative childcare arrangements before the new academic year.

A number of factors influenced the decision to change provision, including the need for school to be competitive with local schools in its wraparound care offer to parents, increasing parental demand for an extended childcare provision and the lack of capacity to be able to host both our own and The Drop Off's before-school childcare provisions.

In summary, I can confirm that, from September 2024:

  • The current 8.30-8.45am provision will not continue beyond the end of this academic year

  • The Drop Off will run Breakfast Club each day from 7.45-8.45am
  • The cost of Breakfast Club will be £4.50 per session.
  • A breakfast of toast, cereals and juice will be provided each day.
  • Sessions can be booked via this link
