āAllergy & Anaphylaxis Awareness - Benedict's Law
Benedict's Law, which you can read about here,Ā is a set of national protections designed to improve allergy safety in schools. The guidance, which is mandatory in schools from the start of this academic year, includes the requirement for:
- all staff to be trained in allergy and anaphylaxis awareness
- individual risk assessments to be in place for all children with serious allergies
- schools to create an Allergy & Anaphylaxis Policy
- schools to have spare Adrenaline Auto-Injectors (AAIs)Ā
All children in Key Stage 1 and 2 had a school assembly on allergy awareness last week and EYFS will cover this in the coming weeks. There are several children in our school with a range of serious allergies and it would be extremely helpful if you could reinforce key messages from the assembly - one being for regular handwashing (particuarly before and after eating and after playing outside) and also to not share food with other children.
Caterlink are updating their allergy records and have requested that parents of children with allergies complete the online form (link below). Even if your child's allergies are already known to Caterlink, they still require you to complete the online form.Ā
