Barclaycard - Summer Clean Up
A huge thanks to Glynn Wakefield for bringing together a wonderful group of his Barclaycard colleagues for our Summer Clean-Up. Supported by a generous Barclaycard grant of £1000, the 30-strong team spent a very hot and busy day improving our external school site. Thanks also to Mrs Anderson for liaisiing with Glynn to source materials. I am extremely grateful for all of the effort involved in planning, resourcing and completing so many jobs in such a small amount of time. As I type this, the workers have just left after a very productive day but Glynn is still up a ladder on the playground with 'just one more job to finish'. Successes from the Summer Clean-Up...
- almost everything wooden has been stained, oiled or painted (thanks also to AJ Sectional)
- peeling and chipped metal railings are now a neat matt black
- bare ground near the Woodland Hideout has a fresh surface of wood chippings
- picket fencing has been fixed
- fence posts have been cemented in place
- the mobile classroom step has been repaired
- a huge pile of waste wood has been disposed of (thanks to Mrs Gregory and boys for this too)
- brambles and overgrow vegetation have been cut back
- slabs have been pressure washed ready for some pupils' artwork next term
- a problematic tree has been felled
- 'tyre' planters have been created (thanks to Mrs Barratt, Mrs Woods and Genevieve)
- the moss on the EYFS covered area has been pressure washed away
- a dangerous hole in the playground is now filled.
And...
- an entire patio has been laid!
Leading this project is a wonderful parting gesture from Mr Wakefield, whose youngest child, William, moves onto secondary school in September. It's true that many hands make light work and also true to say that today wouldn't have happened without Glynn's motivation and willingness to help.
