Grendon CE Primary School has been shortlisted in the Creative School of the Year category at the prestigious TES Schools Awards 2017.
This is in recognition of the school’s innovative approach to learning, including the use of imaginative learning environments, real life contexts for learning through the Global Curriculum and a strong focus on pupils’ acquisition of life skills and on their wellbeing.
Being shortlisted with 7 other schools for this national award tells us that our innovative approach to learning holds its own against the best practice in the UK and gives the whole school community plenty to be proud about.
School staff and governors will attend the awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on friday 23rd June. I will be discussing with staff over the next week or so how we can celebrate in school with the children.
You can read more about the school's success here.
Pine Class has a wonderful new outdoor learning space! The children have enjoyed exploring this new area and they are already using it to support their learning. It has also provided them with a relaxing retreat at play times.
This area was created over the Easter break and Pine pupils have spent much of this week developing the area with seating and plants. We would ask for your cooperation in not allowing children to have unsupervised access of this area outside of school hours - many thanks.
A signifiant area was cleared to create the learning space, with the discarded branches stacked up on the grass bank. The children didn't waste too much time at lunch rummaging through the pile and working together to spontaneously build some fantastic dens!
Year 6 Residential information meeting
The Year 6 residential will be here before we know it and I would like to invite parents of participating children to an information meeting to discuss the trip. We always ask pupils for feedback on the trip and the itinerary has been developed to reflect those aspects which children found most enjoyable and rewarding. If your Year 6 child has an older sibling who has already participated in the trip then you will be forgiven for not attending the meeting! If anyone would like to attend but is unavailable, please let us know and we will arrange to share the information with you at another time.
The meeting will take place on Thursday 18th May @3.45pm in Willow Class.
Thanks to the Half Moon
Thank you to Anthony at the Half Moon for donating a proportion of proceeds from a recent raffle to the school. We were delighted to receive a cheque for just over £80.
